History
Upon his death 24 year old Josef Wendl took over his father's factory. In 1864 he founded the "Josef und Franz Werndl & Comp. Waffenfabrik und Sägemühle in Oberletten", this is the year Steyr celebrates their anniversaries from. Small arms production would start with the beginning of the "Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft".
